  7. MODSIM II is a modern, high-level, object-oriented language for programming and
  8. simulation. It incorporates the key elements of modern software engineering:
  9. block structure, modularity, and strong typing. As an object-oriented language,
  10. MODSIM II is at a much higher level than C++. Programs require fewer statements
  11. and are readable. Multiple inheritance, separate compilation with compilation
  12. management, fully dynamic data types (including strings), data encapsulation,
  13. and late dynamic binding are all supported. MODSIM II has gained quick
  14. acceptance among aerospace Corp.s, government agencies (especially the
  15. intelligence community), research Corp.s, and leading universities. It is
  16. especially popular among organizations building large models which will be
  17. maintained over a long period of time where lifecycle costs and reusable code
  18. issues dominate the language selection criteria. SIMOBJECT, a new development
  19. tool allowing most of the coding associated with programming to be eliminated,
  20. is being developed by CACI to support the MODSIM II language. This
  21. graphics-based development tool, scheduled for release later in 1992, will
  22. further reduce the cost of developing MODSIM II programs.
